GTA 6 Animals and Wildlife Confirmed in Leonida: Full List
Every animal shown or confirmed for GTA 6 so far: gators, manatees, panthers, sharks, birds, pets and invasive species, plus what's still rumor before launch.

Leonida is modeled on Florida, and its wildlife list is already long. Rockstar has confirmed manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators, and trailers and screenshots show many more. GTA VI launches November 19, so here is what is shown, where it lives, and what is still rumor.
The short answer
Rockstar officially confirmed that GTA 6 recreates Florida's diverse ecosystem across Leonida. The goal was to cover urban and rural animal life, inland and ocean aquatic life, and wetlands such as swamps and the Everglades.
The animals with the strongest backing, confirmed across several independent sources:
- Flamingos, wading and flying in flocks over wetlands
- Manatees, pelicans and alligators
- Bottlenose dolphins, travelling in pods through open water
- Green sea turtles and eels, swimming together on coral reefs
- West Indian manatees, in coastal shallows and waterways
- Dogs: chihuahuas, Dobermans, Rottweilers and German Shepherds
Everything below comes from single-source descriptions of Rockstar's official trailers, artwork and screenshots. These are solid pointers, but each comes from one source, so treat them as shown rather than fully verified.
Animals by habitat
| Habitat | Animals shown | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Wetlands / Grassrivers | Flamingos, alligators, manatees, wild boar, Key deer, herons, spoonbills, ducks, cranes | Flamingos and manatees multi-source; the rest single-source |
| Forest / Mount Kalaga | Florida panther (cougar), bobcat, squirrels, fox, beaver, raccoons | Single-source |
| Coast and open water | Dolphins, tiger sharks, manatees, pelicans, seagulls | Dolphins multi-source; the rest single-source |
| Coral reef | Green sea turtles, eels, moray eels, yellowtail snapper | Turtles and eels multi-source; the rest single-source |
| City and suburbs | Cats, dogs, iguanas, pigeons, raccoons, alligators | Dogs multi-source; the rest single-source |
Wetlands and the Grassrivers
Flocks of flamingos gather in the wetlands of the Grassrivers. Great blue herons and roseate spoonbills wade there too, and ducks and cranes show up in wetland and coastal water scenes.
Wild boars dash through shallow marsh water in the Grassrivers. In one scene a boar swims through the shallows as an airboat passes. Key deer, a white-tailed deer, appear in wetland grass. Manatees swim near the surface in shallow wetland water.
Alligators are everywhere
Alligators are the most visible animal in the marketing. According to official material, they turn up in swamps, urban canals, backyard swimming pools and even commercial stores. The trailer shows them in a swimming pool and a supermarket. One source describes them as abundant across wetlands, roadside areas, residential pools and shops.
Alligators are also a human activity in the world. NPC rednecks hunt them in the swamp. Key Linto even has a gator-themed miniature golf course.
Predators and forest animals
The Florida panther (puma) appears in rural and forested areas. Another source describes cougars stalking deer in forested wilderness and perched on rocky hillsides in Mount Kalaga Park. The material uses both names, panther and cougar.
A bobcat is shown lying on a boat in promotional footage. Another source describes a dead bobcat on an airboat alongside hunters. These may be the same shot, though that is my reading of the two descriptions.
Smaller animals include squirrels running up trees, a beaver resting on a riverbank near kayak waters, and a fox running through brush by a riverboat landing ramp. Raccoons rummage through trash cans and scamper past dirt bikes on an industrial dirt track.
One source, with weaker backing, also reports a river otter and round-tailed muskrats along shorelines. It also reports a red fox near a flood gauge and an Eastern gray squirrel on a pine trunk.
Birds
- Pelicans: both white and brown pelicans appear in official artwork and trailer footage. Brown pelicans fly in formation over beach crowds.
- Bald eagles: they appear in official artwork and fly over landscape scenes.
- Seagulls and pigeons: they are featured across coastal and urban areas. Seagulls frequently fly over Vice City and perch near coastal buildings.
- Flamingos: see the wetlands section above.
Ocean life and the reef
Rockstar's official description calls the waters around the Leonida Keys some of the most beautiful and dangerous in America. Dolphins swim beside leisure boats there.
Tiger sharks swim near coastal beach waters, and sharks inhabit both shallow and open water along the coast. A great white shark appears only as a photo or poster on a diner wall, so it is not a confirmed swimming animal.
Underwater ecosystems include sea turtles, eels and coral reefs. Official footage also shows these fish species:
- yellowtail snapper
- mahi-mahi
- Atlantic bluefin tuna
- blackfin tuna
- pompano
- king mackerel
One report adds that some marine creatures show iridescence or bioluminescence, and that jellyfish look translucent.
Pets and domestic animals
Four dog breeds are confirmed: chihuahuas, Dobermans, Rottweilers and German Shepherds. Specific shots show:
- a Miniature Pinscher running on the beach
- a Doberman sitting on a sidewalk
- a Yorkshire Terrier carried by a woman as Jason drives past
- a long-furred German Shepherd in new Game Informer screenshots
Cats appear on top of an ATM, on streets and on rooftops. A pet snake lives in a terrarium at Jason's residence. A corn snake sits in a glass terrarium in an interior scene with Lucia and Jason.
One report says Jason can pet a dog, and that it reportedly boosts his reputation.
Invasive species
The reported animal list mixes native Florida wildlife with invasive species. According to two sources, green iguanas, Aga toads and rhesus macaques are the invasive animals that appear.
Iguanas are the best documented. They show up perched on pedestrians, roaming near buildings and gathering in groups outdoors. Pedestrians keep them as shoulder pets, and they also wander loose on streets and in the wild. They have already appeared in marketing material.
How many species, and how realistic?
Rockstar's official material says Leonida is home to more than 170 animal species. That figure comes from a single source. For context:
| Game | Reported species count |
|---|---|
| GTA V | 28 |
| GTA VI (Leonida) | 170+ |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Around 200, per Rockstar in 2018 |
On those numbers, Leonida is a big step up from GTA V and lands just under RDR2's count. RDR2 featured predators hunting other animals, birds reacting to the environment, decomposing carcasses and species tied to specific habitats. Rockstar has not detailed how much of that carries over, though it does have dedicated teams for animal design and animal populations so each species looks realistic and moves appropriately.
Rockstar is also improving fur, feathers and other animal surfaces, building on its Red Dead Redemption work. One report says each animal has its own movement pattern matching its behavior. The same report says fur is fully simulated, reacts to wetness and dirt, and varies in color within a species.
What you can do with the animals
According to Rockstar's official material, players can observe animals and log them in a logbook similar to a Pokédex. It comes from one source, and details of how it works are not confirmed.
Fishing is shown, with Jason holding a rod on a boat in an official screenshot. Reports say caught fish cannot be kept.
Hunting is murkier. One report says Jason is shown with a rifle approaching deer and that hunting is reportedly an open-world money-making activity. Another source lists hunting and fishing returning as a rumor. Treat hunting as a player mechanic as unconfirmed.
Other activities reportedly bring you close to wildlife: kayaking, airboat rides, skydiving and beach visits. Scuba diving and zoos as destinations between missions are also reported.
Confirmed vs. rumored
Confirmed (multi-source): alligators, flamingos, manatees and pelicans, dolphins, sea turtles and eels, and four dog breeds.
Shown in official material (single-source): panthers, bobcats, tiger sharks, raccoons, boars, Key deer, bald eagles, iguanas, cats, snakes and the fish listed above.
Reported, weaker: otters, muskrats, foxes, Aga toads, rhesus macaques, jellyfish effects and dog-petting.
Rumor: the September 2022 leaks referenced cows, crayfish, frogs, pigeons, possums, rats, skunks and whales. Pigeons are now shown in official material. The rest are unconfirmed.
Speculation: one source reads a silhouette on a cliffside in official screenshots as a black bear cub and an adult bear. That is an interpretation of a shadow, not a confirmed animal.
