Every GTA 6 Trailer Explained: Trailer 1, 2 and Extended Look
Every GTA 6 video in order: Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the 26-minute Extended Look and the Launch Trailer, with release dates, run times and what each one shows.

The short answer
Rockstar released two numbered trailers before An Extended Look. The unnumbered Launch Trailer came after it on October 15, 2026. Rockstar has not officially named any GTA VI video "Trailer 3". The game launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which is 22 days from today.

Trailer 1: the reveal
Trailer 1 went up on December 4, 2023 and runs 1 minute 31 seconds. It was reportedly a YouTube exclusive. It confirmed Vice City, Lucia and Jason. It also introduced the wider state of Leonida. A Vice sign in the footage tells you the story is set in Vice City.
The trailer was mostly a mood piece, and the details people remember are small ones:
- A crocodile walks into a shop, and a street race is being organized in another scene.
- Characters film live videos of themselves doing reckless things, such as riding on top of a moving car.
- Someone rides a hovercraft through what looks like a swamp.
- Cops chase people and vehicles pile into each other.
- Lucia and her partner enter stores with weapons drawn, so robberies are clearly part of the game.
- The Real Dimez duo dance on top of a car.
A blimp over the city in Trailer 1 comes back later in the Extended Look (see below).
The numbers
According to reports, Trailer 1 pulled more than 93 million YouTube views in 24 hours, a YouTube record for a non-music-video debut. Guinness World Records reportedly recognized it as the most-viewed videogame trailer in 24 hours. The previous benchmark was MrBeast's 59.4 million.
Trailer 2: relationship and Leonida
Trailer 2 arrived May 6, 2025 and runs 2 minutes 47 seconds, with all footage captured on PlayStation 5. It digs further into Jason and Lucia's relationship and shows more of Leonida.
These details stand out:
- A screenshot released alongside the trailer showed The Rusty Anchor establishment.
- Lucia fights a bodybuilder on the wing of a flying airplane.
- A snake terrarium sits in what the Extended Look later shows to be Jason's starting safehouse.
- Jason and Lucia wear formal clothing, which returns in a later pool-dive scene.
Rockstar says Trailer 2 pulled in more than 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours, and called it the biggest video launch of all time. That figure covers all platforms, while the Trailer 1 figure above is YouTube-only, so don't compare the two directly.
An Extended Look: the big one
Rockstar uploaded Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look to its YouTube channel and the official site at 9 p.m. ET on August 27, 2026. It runs 26 minutes 48 seconds and was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. Rockstar's own description is its most detailed official look at the game so far. Some outlets reported a 3:00 a.m. Friday timestamp. That is probably the same moment in a European time zone, though that conversion is our reading, not something the sources state.
Is it "Trailer 3"?
No. Fans and press used the name Trailer 3 for it, and a third trailer had been widely expected since spring. But reports describe the Extended Look as a long-form video with close-up dialogue and stripped-down combat phases, not a classic trailer. Rockstar never gave it that name.
Story and characters
The video confirms the full names of both protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Both are playable. The opening has Lucia released from a prison facility, with Jason arriving to pick her up. Reports say the video follows them through a chain of jobs:
- a drug pickup that becomes a firefight
- a rooftop bar meeting with Brian Heder
- a highway getaway with Raul Bautista
- a party that becomes a siege
Some details of Jason's background show up too:
- In voiceover, Jason says he got into trouble in the military and left on bad terms.
- He appears in full tactical gear with a squad in a swamp at sunset.
- He wears a t-shirt referencing the U.S. Army Marauder Combat Training School at North Fort Law.
The two also carry out armed robberies together wearing skull-patterned masks. Rockstar's summary is that they get caught in a criminal conspiracy after an easy score goes wrong, and have to rely on each other to survive.
Set pieces
These are the scenes people have picked out so far:
- Lucia enters a bank vault with an armed accomplice while banknotes burn around them.
- She leaps onto the landing gear of a moving aircraft while escaping police on a runway.
- She fires a grenade launcher from a helicopter at police cruisers below.
- A helicopter crashes on a rooftop while Jason stands in the foreground with an assault rifle.
- An Iron Mule helicopter uses a suspended cargo container or wrecking ball to shatter the windows of an office skyscraper.
- Jason and Lucia dive from a balcony into a swimming pool.
- Raul Bautista holds a bucket of fried chicken while stepping on a man's neck.
Mendez appears with a handgun in a darkened warehouse, wearing a tactical vest with a badge reading Police STF. Police vehicles in pursuit have rear-mounted machine guns.
Vehicles, shops and world details
- The Elegy Retro Custom and the Truffade Thrax supercar both appear.
- Jason boards and exits an Iron Mule helicopter.
- A pink biplane advertising Dacity Coin by Audacity flies over Vice Beach with a stunt performer on top.
- Businesses include Phil's Ammu-Nation and Brian's Boat Works & Marina.
- Road signs in the Keys point to Catalan Key and Goose Key.
- The in-game console controller is called the JS8.
- Cal holds a pet snake in Jason's starting safehouse.
- The Real Dimez duo appear onstage holding microphones.
Callbacks to earlier trailers
The Extended Look reuses a lot from the first two trailers:
- The blimp above Brian's Marina matches the one from Trailer 1.
- The safehouse snake terrarium was first seen in Trailer 2.
- Real Dimez were dancing on a car in Trailer 1 and are now on a stage.
- Lucia's Trailer 2 airplane-wing fight has a counterpart in the runway aircraft escape.
- The pool dive reuses the formal outfits from Trailer 2.
- A red classic sports car with the racing number 36 was earlier showcased in Wyman's Car Collection for the Ultimate Edition pre-order.
Several scenes also match screenshots Rockstar released earlier: the convertible driving shot, the vault environment, and the lighting of Mendez's warehouse.
What it says about gameplay and the world
According to reports, the video shows:
- Vice City in detail, with beaches, highways, nightclubs and shops.
- Basketball and scuba diving.
- Glimpses of improved shooting, vehicle sequences and police encounters.
- A shooting interface reduced to only a reticle.
- Much more NPC activity and environmental detail than GTA V.
- The visual quality players can expect from the PS5 version.
It ends on the November 19, 2026 release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Age restriction and the extra clips
The long video is reportedly age-restricted on YouTube, so viewers have to sign in to confirm their age. About a minute after it went up, six vertical clips of 13 to 45 seconds were released, and those are not age-restricted. They reportedly show:
- parachuting over Vice City's bay
- off-road motorcycles on a dirt track
- a jet ski in mangroves
- a shootout against a police pickup truck
Lucia also walks away from a burning car in a red bandana and gray hoodie. In another clip she and Jason cross a rooftop hand in hand.
The official GTA VI site also carries a cover art animation and short clips for eight characters.
The Launch Trailer
The Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer went live on October 15, 2026 at 6 a.m. PT (9 a.m. ET) on YouTube, the Newswire and the official site. It is 1 minute 29 seconds long and was captured entirely in-game on PS5. Its official title carries no number.
It shows Jason and Lucia in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida after an easy score goes wrong. The song is "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The song is also on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the official soundtrack. Rockstar says more music is coming, including the official score album.
What the videos haven't shown
The Extended Look did not give a detailed look at the next version of GTA Online. No PC release date has been announced.
Confirmed vs. rumored
Confirmed by Rockstar:
- The titles, release dates and run times in the table above.
- Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are the two protagonists.
- November 19, 2026 is the launch date on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Nothing has been officially named Trailer 3.
Reported but from a single source:
- The jobs sequence in the Extended Look.
- The age restriction.
- The six vertical clips.
- The Trailer 1 view records.
Speculation (treat as fan theory):
- The Trailer 1 crocodile may hint at diverse wildlife in the game.
- GTA 6 may be satirizing social media.
- Some Trailer 1 locations, such as a nightclub, may echo the original Vice City.
