GTA 6 TV Ads: What Rockstar Cut From the Launch Trailer
GTA 6's first TV ads aired during the NBA. What's different from the launch trailer, from the shower scenes to the missing Xbox logo, and the wider campaign.

GTA 6 is now on TV. The first commercials aired on October 20 during the NBA's opening night, and they're cut from the launch trailer, with a few telling changes: the steamy shower scenes are trimmed, some shots run longer, and the Xbox logo is missing. Here's every change in the GTA 6 TV ads, and the rest of Rockstar's launch campaign.
Where the GTA 6 TV ads are airing
The first spots were seen during NBA opening night games on October 20, including Knicks vs 76ers, on NBC. So far all confirmed sightings have been on US basketball broadcasts. There are reportedly two versions, one of about 30 seconds and one of about 90 seconds.
What's different from the launch trailer
| Change | What's been reported | How solid? |
|---|---|---|
| Shower scenes | Cut back, or removed entirely in the 30-second version | Reported, accounts differ |
| Longer shots | Some scenes run longer than in the trailer | Reported |
| Xbox logo | Missing from the end card | Reported |
| Lucia's ankle monitor | Shot possibly dropped from the short cut | Rumor |
The shower scenes
The launch trailer has three brief shower moments with Jason and Lucia. Kotaku reports that the TV cut keeps the first and drops the other two. Other outlets say the 30-second spot removes them all, while the 90-second version keeps some. Either way, Rockstar has toned things down for television. Rockstar hasn't commented on the edits.
Longer shots
Cutting scenes left room for others to run longer, including Lucia jumping from a truck onto a plane's landing gear, a longer look at the plane, and a moment where Jason nudges Lucia's arm. One outlet also spotted more of Raul Bautista dancing. Our launch trailer breakdown covers the original version shot by shot.
No Xbox logo
The TV spots end without the Xbox Series X|S logo. Fans link that to Sony's marketing deal for GTA 6. Don't read anything else into it: GTA 6 still launches on Xbox Series X|S on November 19. See every platform GTA 6 is on.
The rest of the launch campaign
The TV ads are just one part of a huge push:
- Netflix: the extended gameplay look premiered on Netflix on August 27, six hours before it reached YouTube.
- PlayStation: Sony has the marketing deal, and has put GTA 6 on its "It Happens on PS5" digital billboards in Tokyo.
- In-game brands on real streets: digital kiosks and billboards around Miami have shown ads for GTA 6's fictional brands, including Pißwasser, eCola, Weazel News and radio stations, and a Vice City blimp has been spotted over the city.
- Miami: the Heat play as Vice City against the Bucks on November 18, the night before launch, on a custom court in themed uniforms. Read how Miami is becoming Vice City for the giant arena sign and the beach campaign.
