GTA 6 Not Working? Fixes for Launch Day Problems on PS5 and Xbox

GTA 6 unlocks on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and with millions of people downloading and logging in at the same moment, something will go wrong for someone. This page collects the most likely problems and how to fix them. We'll update it live on launch night with any errors players run into and the fixes that work.

Quick fixes

2. Restart the console fully, not from rest mode.

5. Restore licences if the game or your bonus items say you don't own them (steps below).

"I can't play yet" even though it's downloaded

If your clock has passed midnight and it's still locked, your account's store region may be different from where you live. The game follows the store region, not your console's clock.

Download stuck or very slow

Launch night is the worst possible time to download a game this big. If you're downloading on the day:

• Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi if you can.
• Pause and resume a download that has been stuck at the same percentage for a long time.
• Keep the console in rest mode with internet access enabled overnight, rather than switching it off.
• Don't delete and restart unless nothing else works. You'll lose your progress and join the back of the queue.

Not enough storage

My physical copy has no disc

That's expected. Game says I don't own it, or bonus items are missing

This is usually a licence problem, and it's quick to fix:

• PS5: Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore Licences.
• Xbox: Check you're signed in with the account that bought the game, then go to My games & apps → Manage → check the game and add-ons are listed.

Crashes, freezes or stuck on a loading screen

• Install the latest update. Day-one patches often fix launch crashes.
• Restart the console fully and launch the game again.
• PS5 only: if crashes keep happening, start in Safe Mode and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. It doesn't delete your games or saves.
• Check server status. If online services are down, parts of the game that need a connection may not load.
